* Currrency
The local currency is the Egyptian pound (LE). Exchange rates are better in Egypt than abroad. Money exchange is availabe in banks, hotels and currency exchanges (bureaux de change) in Hurghada. Most hotels take credit cards (all major credit/debit cards including Amex, Maestro, Visa MasterCard, Dinners are well accepted) and also change money. However, outside hotels, shops, restaurants, clubs and excursion centers rarely take credit cards, because Egypt is predominantly a cash society. There's a plenty of ATM's machines (withdraw in Egyptian pounds only) throughout Hurghada. Travellers cheques are accepted by banks.
When we set prices for diving, diving courses and snorkeling in 2014:
1 EUR = 10 EGP
1 USD = 7 EGP
*Current exchange rate: http://www.nbe.com.eg/en/ExchangeRate.aspx which may vary from local exchange offices a little bit.
* Language
Arabic is the national language of Egypt, but in Hurghada most people employed within the tourism industry speak several languages including English, German, Russian, French and Italian.
